The Health Benefit of MitoQ

Cate:News Center Time:2026-04-13

#Mitoquinone Mesylate, commonly referred to as MitoQ, is a synthetic analogue of coenzyme Q10, designed as a mitochondria-targeted antioxidant with enhanced bioavailability and mitochondrial penetration.

#MitoQ was first developed in New Zealand in the late 1990s and is widely sold as a dietary supplement, with potential applications in medical indications such as liver diseases and neurodegenerative disorders. Its mechanism involves concentrating in mitochondria, where it scavenges free radicals, reducing oxidative stress and supporting cellular energy production.

  • 1. Neurodegenerative Diseases: Improves neurological and cognitive functions, reduces oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and axonal injury in TBI; enhances mitochondrial function in HD, ALS, X-ALD, SCA1, and AD.
  • 2. Cancer: Mitigates HCC progression, inhibits mitochondrial Hsp90 (TRAP1), damages breast/lung cancer cells by impairing mitochondrial homeostasis.
  • 3. Pulmonary Diseases: Reduces airway inflammation, mucus hypersecretion in COPD; protects against endothelial barrier injury and lung injury via NRF2 pathway.
  • 4. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD): Prevents vascular calcification, protects podocytes from mitochondrial injury via KEAP1-NRF2 pathway.
  • 5. Ischemia-Reperfusion & Pregnancy: Protects intestinal barrier, reduces placental oxidative/nitrosative stress; mitigates fetal hypoxia effects.
  • 6. Ototoxicity: Reduces hearing loss and cochlear cell death in aminoglycoside-induced ototoxicity.
  • 7. Infertility: Protects against testicular damage, enhances steroidogenesis, improves sperm morphology; protects oocytes during IVM.
  • 8. Fatigue: Reduces pain, increases cognitive function in fibromyalgia patients.
  • 9. Diabetes: Mitigates insulin resistance, improves mitochondrial function in PCOS; reduces endoplasmic reticulum stress in β cells.
